Cuba was a very special trip for me. It was my first time traveling somewhere for the sole purpose of taking photographs. With the guidance of a wonderful UK professional photographer, Keith Cardwell, and talented Cuban professional photographer, Julio Munoz, I was able to immerse myself in the Cuban culture. No zoom lenses, no standing back, I was in every shot. A few feet (sometimes inches) separated me from my subject.
What made this experience so special was the warmth and openness of the Cuban people. These photographs would not have been possible without their hospitality and goodwill. I was welcomed into people's homes, onto people's land, allowed to photograph their children and their personal belongings. They had nothing to hide, but rather a willingness to share. I hope that through these images you will see the beauty of the Cuban culture that I was lucky enough to experience in person. |
